NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. Media Release

The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. can confirm there has been several employees who have lost their jobs with our community-controlled organisation. The employees were employed under a contractual agreement in a casual basis during school hours.

This decision was one that was not made lightly but was made in the best interest of the organisation. This was based on changes to our contractual agreement which deemed the current structure a financial risk to both the organisation and the Aboriginal Languages and Culture Program.

We can confirm that the program that delivers Aboriginal Languages and Culture throughout our Satellite Nests will continue. An expression of interest has been forwarded out for Aboriginal community members to be employed within the nests.

Employees were informed of the pending changes over a lengthy period via emails, team meetings and zoom. With the NSW Health orders in place due to the pandemic, this limited the opportunity to travel and to meet face to face.

The organisation wishes to reaffirm at all times, staff and our communities were placed first in this decision and all due diligences, compliance and procedural fairness is in place.
