Partnership Agreement Mid-Point Review Report

The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Incorporated (NSW AECG) and the NSW Department of Education are proud to continue our strong and enduring partnership, highlighting our shared commitment to improve the educational outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people across New South Wales.

Grounded in the 2020–2030 Walking Together, Working Together Partnership Agreement, our collaboration is based on a strength-focused approach. Through respectful listening, shared decision-making, and genuine engagement, we are working together to ensure that Aboriginal learners are supported academically, culturally, socially, spiritually, and emotionally.

In her forwarding address in the 2020 – 2030 Renewed Partnership Agreement Walking Together, Working Together, our dear colleague, the late Cindy Berwick (OAM) shared her sense of hope and optimism. The optimism that we can continue to build on the successes achieved to date and the hope that the disparities and inequities that currently exist for Aboriginal children are challenged and addressed through building an education system that is respectful, collaborative and accountable.

As we celebrate the achievements of our students, families, and communities, we must equally reflect on where improvement is needed and take action.

The mid-point review of our Partnership Agreement marks an important milestone in this work. Insights from this review have shaped the agreed commitments and informed our next steps to ensure the Partnership Agreement remains current, practical, and impactful for the years ahead.

Our responsibility is clear. We must continue building strong connections between those we represent, uphold high expectations for every learner, and ensure that Aboriginal identity, culture, and language are recognised as central to educational success.

Together we remain steadfast in our commitment to walk together and work together, today and into the future, so that every Aboriginal child and young person is known, valued, cared for, and given every opportunity to meet their full potential in education.
