Communique - NSW AECG Association Management Committee

The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group’s Association Management Committee met in Sydney on Monday 23 February 2026.

The AMC discussed and confirmed the Minutes of the 2025 AGM and Annual Conference, the Agenda for the upcoming AGM and Annual Conference, the Annual Conference Dinner and the Annual Report and Audit outcome.

The President provided an update on the Secretariat structure and discussed the delegates receiving a Secretariat update directly from Managers at the upcoming Annual Conference.

The President and Policy and Strategy Manager provided an update on the transfer of corporate structure including the current draft constitution.

Representatives from the NSW Department of Education People Group presented on the two proposals relating to the Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO) positions within the Department.

The Policy and Strategy Manager provided a background to the Yamagigu Report and the recommendation for the organisation to consider staff wellbeing.

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Corporation engaged NSW AECG to undertake consultation on the proposed national First Nations Education Policy.

The President presented a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NSW AECG and Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council NSW (AH&MRC).
