Junior AECG Summit 2025

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I know if my Junior AECG delegate has been accepted to the camp?

After the EOI closing date, your Region will receive an email informing them whether their application has been successful or if your Junior AECG member has been placed on a waiting list. The response will be sent to the email address provided during the EOI process. Please note that individual students will be selected from Regions and designated 4 positions.

What if I don't respond to the camp acceptance email in a timely manner?

The NSW AECG will assume your student/Region is no longer interested in attending, and the waiting list will be enacted.

Does a teacher need to attend the camp?

Yes, Regions will need to negotiate with the school, in which the Junior AECG delegation is coming from, to provide 1 teacher to accompany their students as part of their ‘Supervision of Children’ obligations. School teaching staff are responsible for the overall supervision of students at all times.

Can an AEO attend the camp in place of a teacher attending?

Unfortunately, an AEO does not hold the same duty of care obligations as a Teacher, and therefore are unable to attend the camp in place of a teacher.

Can I apply for a group of students together?

No, please fill a form out for each student as students may have different needs and requirements.

What is the accommodation arrangement?

The accommodation at the venue is cabin style. Students will be grouped with their school but will share spaces with students from other schools, with accommodation separated by gender. Teachers and staff members are expected to share rooms with other staff of the same gender. While the NSW AECG will make every effort to provide individual rooms for staff where possible, this may be challenging due to the number of students and supervising teachers attending.

What do students and teachers need to bring with them?

A full list of what teachers and students need to bring will be provided once acceptance to the Junior AECG Summit is confirmed.

What workshops will be offered at the AECG Youth Summit camp?

Throughout the Junior AECG Summit, students will experience participate in various workshops that include interactive, hands-on and leadership activities including future direction sessions, student voice development, public speaking and governance.

Junior AECG delegates will also participate in strategic workshops that will help shape the future of the Junior AECG network, ensuring the Aboriginal student voice s reflective in the work of the NSW AECG.

Addition, there will be some local Dhangatti activities reflecting on the local Aboriginal protocols giving students an opportunity to engage directly with local cultural educators.
