NSW AECG is seeking motivated and suitably experienced and qualified people to join the NSW AECG Closing the Gap team.

Policy Officer: 12-month temporary position – salary range $95,059 – $115,020 per annum. Applications from Aboriginal people are strongly encouraged.
The Policy Officer provides detailed and informed policy advice on a range of complex policy issues including advice in the development of the NSW Jurisdictional Plan, developing CAPO Closing the Gap policy positions, promoting CAPO’s Closing the Gap policy positions to key stakeholders, preparing quality reports, submissions, briefing papers and correspondence.

Community Engagement Officer (Identified position): 12-month temporary position – salary range $95,059 – $115,020 per annum. This is an Identified position under Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Community Engagement Officer supports, designs and facilitates community engagement activities and develops related materials relating to Closing the Gap in NSW. The Community Engagement Officer facilitates the development of high-quality communication materials to support understanding of Closing the Gap and NSW CAPO, develops and implements communication plans, and maintains a comprehensive understanding of best practice Aboriginal community engagement.

NSW CAPO and Closing the Gap

The NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) is a coalition of peak Aboriginal community-controlled organisations in NSW. NSW CAPO provides a strong, coordinated, and united voice to address Aboriginal rights, which include, but are not limited to, health, education, housing, employment, legal equality, culture and heritage, child and family supports, disability, social justice, LGBTQI+, economic development and promoting respect for human rights. NSW CAPO, through the National Coalition of Aboriginal Peaks, has signed the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (https://coalitionofpeaks.org.au/) and is working in partnership with the NSW Government to develop a NSW Jurisdictional Plan.

As a part of the partnership arrangements between NSW CAPO and the NSW Government, the NSW Government has provided grant funding to NSW CAPO organisations to support Closing the Gap work, including employment of Closing the Gap staff.
